Antelop Fawns

These guys have been around for a few days and only need some growth to look identical to mom. Well, maybe some exercise too.

 

The other rut

The elk rut gets the most attention because of their aggressive behavior in Mammoth. The other rut in September is more subtle but no less energetic with antelope bucks ripping sage and high speed chasing of rivals. Antelope are also more civilized and begin their activity well after sunrise.

On the Move

Antelope were migrating to the Gardiner area during my recent visit to Yellowstone.

Where Antelope Play

I'm continuing to look through North Dakota images taken earlier this month.  This pair mated shortly after we drove off.  If you look closely you can see the swollen neck on the buck.  The female was scent marking the sage and the buck was raking its horns on the scent. Taken in Theodore Roosevelt National Park.
