Sunrise Over Lake Sakatah

I was roaming southern Minnesota lake country and stopped to watch the sunrise.  The tranquil scene was taken from a conveniently located boat landing.

Winter Blue

It is a joy to see blue sky again! This was shot about half an hour after sunset as the bitter cold was setting in. Daylight WB used with minimal increase in saturation. Foreground lightened with Lightroom shadow slider.

Birch on Round Prairie

I look at these trees each time I pass them on the way to Pebble Cr. It has taken the short trees just protruding through the snow almost twenty years to spring back after decades of over browsing by elk. Nature has its own schedule.

Winter Color

Today is starting gray and windy which reminded me of this shot from a few years ago.  Most of my black and white shots are taken during the winter, making the most of the contrast range.  I'm not getting many new images this month, the shutter finger is getting twitchy.

Blue Dawn

I went to Namekagon Barrens for sunrise yesterday and instead had fantastic ground fog to play with. It seems ironic that an area almost devoid of trees needs one to create a landscape image. Technical: Daylight white balance, foreground lightened in Lightroom
