Winter Begins

What a difference a little snow makes! I was in the woods when the first snow came on Thanksgiving and watched the animals while staying warm but getting a little wet. 

Strutting their Stuff

I wish I could have been there but I would have probably been too interested in the camera settings to enjoy the show. This pair performed in front of what I have called my "carcass cam" which has had lots of coincidental activity but very little attention directed toward the raccoon carcass that has been cropped out in this image.

Spring Turkeys

Spring is here and turkeys are noisy, busy, and on  the move. There are a couple dozen turkeys at Townsend Woods SNA that I have been trying to record for the last 6 months. The only shots have been distant shots with them walking away. This trail cam was in place for a month and recorded these birds. Some of the birds seem to be aware of the camera attached to a tree. 

The Ladies

This group missed the dancing tom by a couple days but it's early in the season. This camera has recorded more turkey behavior than I expected. The only thing unique about its position is the dead raccoon I have to crop out of each image. The next blog will show it and my intended subject.

It's the season

The tom's were busy while it was warm before the snow. This was taken with a camera trap that has been watching a raccoon carcass for a couple weeks. For aesthetic reasons it was cropped out of the image. 

Happy Thanksiving

I  thought this was a good time to share this video taken a couple months ago in Flandrau State Park. I upgraded to the new OS Mavericks yesterday and put this together on iMovie 10+. Upgrading appears to have been a mistake. Footage from the C100 is not visible with quick look but the 7D footage is visible. 

Searching

I have been watching turkeys lately and am gaining an appreciation for them. When not concerned about a photographer they have some very interesting behavior. I watched two of them chasing each other around a tree a couple days ago, fun to watch but not enough time to set up the camera.
