2015 Memories

Last year I volunteered for Yellowstone NP as a wildlife videographer (the government job title is a lot more detailed) and had an unforgettable experience recording aggressive elk behavior.   This elk ran up a couple steps and chased us off from this "safe" viewing location in front of Mammoth Hotel. For the rest of the week I chose another location and was able good footage of him attacking as the tourists fled the deck. The most amazing memory is that several people would not leave, as if they owned the space, when it charged the deck. The entire week was an experience I will never forget.

Morning in the Wild

My last post was of an intimidating bull walking toward me on the parade ground in Mammoth. This bull was on Swan L. Flat heading toward a solitary cow. While head shots are nice this seems much more intimate with me peaking over the sage. Now that I am back in Minnesota with internet access I'll be posting daily until the images run dry and fall color begins here.

Technical: All wildlife images are stills taken from C100 video footage.Only two wildlife images were taken with the Canon7D and both were pitched. My transition to wildlife video is about 99% complete.

Looking through me

I've been in Yellowstone for the last several days recording aggressive elk behavior. The first night I got more than I bargained for when this guy ran onto the patio where about 20 of us were watching. The "sport" is watching him ram cars that stop to take his picture. One night he charged about a dozen. Needless to say recording aggressive elk behavior in the wild is a little harder to record, still working on that.
