Hunger or Curiosity?

 

Is it hunger or just curiosity that caused these deer to investigate the camera? I think it is interesting to see the difference in behavior between these does and the buck shown on a previous blog post. Which is it? . . . I can only guess.

A Wily coyote?

 

We tend to give animals human characteristics, frequently based on fictional stories. Think about the wily coyote in the Road Runner cartoons. Native Americans give the coyote supernatural properties. As with  humans generalizations can be misleading. This guy looks anything but wily or supernatural.

Sunday Morning Test

I've seen some great nature videos taken with an iPhone and yesterday was a perfect day to explore the slow motion video features on it. The camera was attached to a gorilla pod which was wrapped to a branch for stability. Natural sound was recorded as it happened. Everything was edited in Final Cut Pro X.

Technical: The white is slightly burned in some frames but the contrast range seems good. The last clip seems to have some focus searching. 

Autumn Drama

I am always looking for a story to tell with video. Predator/prey relationships make a good story even in the insect world. Bill Wallauer who filmed the movie Chimpanzee for the Disney gives some insights into the world of wildlife filmmaking at Google + Photographers

Common Redpolls in Motion

This video gives a much better story of redpolls in winter.  Birds are limited in the amount of fat they can store, too much weight would make them unable to fly, so eating is the answer to a cold winter day.  Yesterday's bird ID has been corrected.
